Busy Periscope Post & Audio grows Cinespace facility

The expansion of Michael Nehs and Jonathan Bross’ full-service Periscope Post and Audio  over a full floor at Cinespace that began in May is expected to be finished in the next 90 days.

The company opened two years ago this month in 2,000-sq. ft. of space on the third floor at Cinespace’s Service Building, 2602 W. 16th St., always with the intention of growing into the rest of the 7,500-sq. ft. space, which gives them the entire floor.

Unfazed by the construction around them, Perioscope’s staff of 10 has accomplished a great deal of work.

“We just finished dailies for Dallas Jenkins’ faith-based ‘Resurrection of Gavin Stone’ feature,” says Nehs, “and the music recording and mixing for season two of ‘Empire,’ and complete ADR.”

For “Empire’s” new season,” Nehs notes that Fox bumped up amount of songs music the show used season one. “They’re going to need roughly 72 approved songs, which means we’ll record more than 100 tracks for them, all original.”

Earlier, Periscope edited the NHL highlight shows during the Stanley Cup Finals; handled complete post services for the Chicago-produced TV pilot, “The Blexicans;” full post on LA-based feature “The Head Thieves” and Chicago-based indie feature “Jim Shoe.”

When completed in September, Periscope could handle work on 10 projects simultaneously, with its 10 employees, plus freelancers and outside talent, Nehs recently told Mix Magazine.

The studio, designed by Kevin Rodgers of Karp Designs, will have recording studios, control rooms, editing suites, color suites, a Foley room, a Dolby dubbing stage and more.

“All my rooms are based off of rooms I’ve been in at different studios in L.A. I’m taking proven designs and replicating them here,” says Nehs, former 10-year owner of Frontsight Productions.
